Pontianak, Aug 7 (Antaranews Kalbar) - The West Kalimantan Provincial Health Office has called on the local print and online media to make joint efforts to ensure the success of the Measles and Rubella (MR) immunization programs in the province.
"Along with the media crews, let us help ensure the successful implementation of MR immunization to achieve the over 95 percent target in the province," Marcellen from the West Kalimantan Health Office remarked here on Tuesday.
Moreover, he invited journalists in the province to also present news on MR immunization to rouse the interest of mothers to bring along their children to get vaccinated for MR.
"Infants administered MR immunization experience side-effects after four or five days though not serious," he stated.
The local health office, in principle, is ready to cooperate for the success of MR immunization and others, including for the prevention of dengue fever in West Kalimantan.
Deputy Mayor of Pontianak Edi Rusdi Kamtono had stated that the Pontianak city government had set a target to cover all children in the age group of nine to 15 years in the city to receive MR immunizations.
He noted that some 150 thousand children belonged to this age group in Pontianak City.
"We will involve schools, both public and private, as well as those under the Ministry of Religion for achieving the targets for measles and rubella immunization," he noted.
Marcellen expressed hope that the Pontianak City Health Office and all existing Community Healthcare Centers (Puskesmas) would optimally implement the immunization program.
He confirmed that current conditions in Pontianak are still normal. However, precautionary measures need to be taken to keep a record of children who are born, as the virus that causes rubella must be eradicated.
"However, what is no less important is how to follow a healthy lifestyle that must be continued," he added.
