Pontianak (Antaranews Kalbar)  - Daniel Johan, the Vice Chairman of Commission IV House of representative Republic Indonesia, asks for the allocation of subsidized fertilizer enhancement for the horticulture farming in West Kalimantan, considering farmers’ production in that sector has increased in recent years.
"The fertilizer quota is less than 5 persen from the total allocation of the fertilizer," said Daniel Johan during the Commission IV House of Representative work visit to West Kalimantan in Pontianak, on Monday.
He added, from the meeting with horticulture farmers in Pontianak, there are things need to emphasized.
For the example, the production of vegetables farmers in Pontianak, such as North Pontianak was supplies the needs in Pontianak and other regions or villages. "So, farmers from the town are supplies to villages," said member of House Representative of the Regional Election of West Kalimantan from PKB (National Awakening Party) Fraction.
Then, there were also complaints about fertilizer from farmers. "The needs are 320 tons of subsidized fertilizer, but it’s filled only 10 tons. So the amount of fertilizer which subsidized was very small," he said.
In addition, he added farmers also difficult in getting some vegetable seeds which must be imported. "Because there are some types of seeds which have not been produced properly in this country," Daniel said.
However, his parties still encourages the Agriculture Research and Development Agency of Ministry of Agriculture to be able to produce good quality seeds likes others import products.
Chief of Food Crops and Horticultural Office of West Kalimantan Province, Heronimus Hero admitting that the subsidized fertilizer quota for horticulture farmers is still in small amount. He agreed that the quota can be increase to fulfill farmers’ needs
"The subsidized fertilizers need to increase if it’s possible. Because the horticulture sector production from 2016 until 2017, keep increasing. Even this sector helps the overall achievement when there is a decline in other sectors such as food crops," he explained.
Tan Lie Hian, Head of the Agribisnis Khatulistiwa, the Farmers Association said that farmers’ yields from seven groups of farmer which incorporated in were quite well.
"The obstacle is usually about subsidized fertilizer. While for vegetable crops can be harvest in 20 days until 30 days, and need to be planting again so it especially requires urea fertilizer," said Tan Hie Lian.
The needs of vegetable seeds in a month are around 200 kilograms. For some types of vegetables such as curly mustard, kailan, sweet mustard, pok cay, still need to import mainly from China. The vegetable farmland in North Pontianak is around 200 hectare.
