Pontianak, W Kalimantan, May 11 (Antaranews Kalbar) - The indonesian government will focus on human resource development, besides infrastructure development, the Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani, said here on Friday.

"Indonesia will have a population of around 309 million by 2045 or 100 years after independence. The population will not turn into an asset for the Republic unless they have good education, health and skills. In view of that the government will focus on HRD development," she said in her speech at the 59th anniversary event of Tanjungpura University.

She said the government was serious about the effort and had allocated Rp3 trillion for revitalisation of vocational education.

"The government has also increased scholarships for university students currently totalling 18,400. All of the efforts are aimed at giving them better education to make them more competitive," she said.

Mulyani also detailed the progress made in the economic sector so far. The government had set a target of reducing it to below ten per cent of the population, she said.

The current rate was still at 10.12 per cent, but the government was optimistic that the programme to alleviate poverty, with a budget of Rp288.7 trillion, could lower the rate further, she added.

The minister called on all members of the university to take part in the country`s economic development efforts in line with their capacities.

"Let us build professionalism in all fields. You are all needed by the country. Let us support the direction of economic development and monitor its management for improvement," she said.
