Putussibau, W Kalimantan, Aug 16 (Antaranews Kalbar) - The Indonesian military has foiled the attempt to smuggle 20 tons of rattan from Badau subdistrict in West Kalimantan to Malaysia.

"The illegal rattan was brought from Sekayam in Sanggau district to be smuggled to Malaysia through Badau subdistrict," commander of the West Kalimantan border security task force of Infantry Battalion (Yonif) 320 Lt. Col Inf. Imam Wicaksana said here on Thursday.

On Aug 6, the task force received information from Badau customs office on the smuggling of export quality rattan. On Aug 13, a security personnel in a palm oil plantation reported the presence of two suspicious trucks in the area.

"The illegal rattan was transferred from the two trucks to a smaller truck," he added.

The task force found that the rattan did not have legal documents for exports.

"The truck drivers failed to show any documents for the rattan," he remarked, adding that the total value of the rattan was around Rp2.8 billion.

The authority has seized the rattan and detained the three truck drivers.
