Putussibau, W Kalimantan, Dec 19 (Antaranews Kalbar) - The agriculture quarantine personnel in West Kalimantan`s village of Entikong, destroyed 16.2 thousand chicken eggs which illegally entered the Indonesian region recently from Malaysia.

"Thousands of eggs enter Indonesian territory illegally through unofficial routes in the Badau Sub-District," the veterinary medical officer of Entikong Quarantine, Riko Rukardi, stated in Badau, Kapuas Hulu, on Wednesday.

According to Rukardi, destroying the eggs from Malaysia was an effort to prevent the entry of poultry products and transmission of bird flu to Indonesia.

"The eggs are indeed illegal," Rukardi noted, adding that prevention of the entry of poultry products and the derivatives originating from other countries has been implemented since August 2018.

Malaysia`s territory was not yet declared free of bird flu.

"Our effort is to prevent flu and the like from entering Indonesia," he explained.

Previously, five unofficial small lanes at the Indonesia-Malaysia border area in the West Kalimantan Provincial district of Kapuas Hulu had been officially closed.

The closure of the unofficial small lanes, locally called "rat lanes," was carried out by using excavators on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. local time, in an effort to prevent smuggling practices from both Malaysia and Indonesia, the task force commander of the two countries` border area Lt. Col. Imam Wicaksana pointed out when contacted here on Sunday.

"The closure of the rat lanes is in response to the rampant smugglings of drugs and other illegal goods," Wickasana explained.

He further noted that if the illegal smuggling is not prevented, this would be very detrimental to the state and the Indonesian people, particularly in the economic sector.

He expressed hope that the closure of rat lanes can reduce the illegal activities on the border areas, and it would no longer threaten the economic independence of the community.
