Putussibau, W Kalimantan, June 16 (Antaranews Kalbar) - Numerous Catholic youths and Pastor Martin Tamur SMM of the Immaculate Virgin Mary Church in Putussibau, West Kalimantan, participated in safeguarding the Eid al-Fitr service on Friday.
"The Catholic Church in Putussibau mobilized Catholic youths and the pastor in securing the Eid prayers yesterday," Catholic Youth Secretary Yohanes Telajan informed Antara during a telephonic conversation on Saturday.
He said the Catholic Church`s participation in securing the Eid prayers on Friday was a form of religious tolerance and harmony in Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan Province.
According to Telajan, the Mosque Youths had also taken a similar step to maintain security during Easter.
"Hence, that is the beauty of peace and a sense of kinship in Kapuas Hulu in maintaining harmony among religious communities," Yohanes explained.
Representing all Catholic youths and the Catholic Church, Yohanes wished Happy Eid al-Fitr to all Muslims celebrating it.
In the meantime, Kapuas Hulu Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Imam Riyadi noted that the security condition in the district is still conducive.
People from all walks of life as well as all parties comprising the Police, TNI, Sat Pol PP, Scouts, and several other organizations, including the Church, have remained committed in maintaining security and order during Eid.
"Hence, this is a form of our sense of togetherness in maintaining security, whether Muslims or non-Muslims, to jointly maintain security during every religious festival," Riyadi noted.
He expressed hope that a sense of togetherness and kinship would continue to be maintained in Kapuas Hulu, especially in facing the upcoming simultaneous regional head elections.
