Pontianak, W. Kalimantan, July 14 (Antaranews Kalbar) - Head of the West Kalimantan Regional Agriculture and Food Crop Service (HTP) Heronimus Hero said the province is set to be one of the country`s food production centers.

"We have the potentials and we are ready. We need only to push ourselves to exploit the potentials. We have available ample lands of more than 1 million hectares," Hero said here on Saturday.

He said availability of land to expand plantations is needed to increase production and in order to become a source of food supplies, the region has to increase its food production.

With ample land, West Kalimantan has the potential to become a food production center, Hero said.

Currently West Kalimantan is expanding its food crop plantations especially rice, corn and soybean fields, he said.

"We are ready in potentials. We only need to improve the quality of our human resources and facilities and infrastructure," he repeated.

He said the central government, the provincial and district administrations have all agreed to make West Kalimantan as national food production center .

"This is a program in which we share the same view with the Agriculture Ministry. The question is how to get the idea across to the executors, the farmers," he said.

Even if the West Kalimantan is an autonomous region , the regional and district policies have to be in line with the program of the agriculture ministry.

"Now we have the special program for rice, corn and soybean with the indicators of success viewed from the expansion of plantation which depend much on us in the village," he said.
