Kuching, Malaysia, July 14 (Antaranews Kalbar) - Several foreign journalists, invited by the Sarawak Tourism Board to cover the Rainforest World Music Festival 2018, spent time cycling around Kuching City, Sarawak, Malaysia, on Saturday morning.

The cycling program is one of the two options for journalists to go around the city apart from using a bus.

At 8 a.m. local time, the entourage departed aboard a van from the Damai Beach Resort, which is their homestay located some 30 kilometers from Kuching, or an hour`s drive.

In Kuching, the entourage travelled to Para Desa, One Wayang Tour Sdn Bhd, as a service provider, around the city by bicycle.

Initially, 11 people had signed up after which the figure reduced to five and finally only three people, including one from Antara, were ready to participate in the activity. The other two were from Germany and Australia.

Bansik, a young girl from Sri Aman, became the guide of the group and explained about the cycling procedure and the distance traveled of about 13 kilometers.

Package trips offered to the entourage comprised B1, which includes just a tour around the city. In fact, there are dozens of travel packages offered by the villages.

The first location to visit is Square Tower, the rest building of the time of James Brooke, the Englishman who ruled Sarawak in the past.

The entourage next explored some old buildings and made a stopover at the Sarawak Museum to observe the development of the Malaysian state from time to time.

The entourage then spent time in a traditional market area located on Indian Street where buyers can strike a fair bargain.

"If it is good, it can be cheaper 20 or 30 percent," she stated.

This area also has an Indian Mosque that is open round the clock. The journey continued by crossing the Sarawak River to the area of the State Invitation Board. Before crossing, they stopped by at the Bandar Raya Kuching Mosque.

At the State Invitation Council, it is a form of Sarawak legislature, and the journey was quite arduous, as visitors have to climb quite far.

The area has Fort Margarita, the rest of the past fort, and the new building as well as the old State Invitation Board.

To return to the city center, visitors have to pass the new Darul Hana Bridge inaugurated in November 2017. The bridge, stretching along 336 meters above the Sarawak River, has become a new icon of the city.

After some three hours, the entourage returned to Para Desa. Before returning to Damai Beach Resort, they enjoyed the Malaysian typical ice of ABC near Para Desa.
