Susanto Yang as the Vice Chairman II of Public Policy Affairs of Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (Gapki) said that his team truly supports the government to oppose the European Union's discrimination toward palm oil or Crude Palm Oil (CPO) policy.
"We strongly support the Government’s attitude for not comply and oppose to the European Union’s discrimination which is still insits with their decision to gradually lowering the use of CPO-based fuel until 2030,” he said at the Borneo Forum held by Gapki in Pontianak on Thursday.
He explained that even though the portion of Indonesia's CPO exports to European Union was only around 3-4 million tons per year and it did not impact directly. However, psychologically the market will impact to other countries.
"The existence of the discriminatory policies became our concern because it will spread to other countries when it not handled,” he said.
The Government’s step to bring that issue to World Trade Organization (WTO) PBB was considered as the right way, he continued.
"We fully support the Government efforts including the effort to bring this issue to WTO. Hopefully, it will become the best future for the oil palm industry in Indonesia. "Palm oil is the most efficient vegetable oil and it has high productivity," he said
Besides the resistance to the world oil competition and discrimination policy, his team was also support the Government’s effort for expand the domestic market such as the B20 policy.
"We will not depending on foreign countries through the B20 policy that expanded the domestic market. Definitely, it will impact to the palm farmers and palm oil producers in Indonesia,” he said.
He also said that the B20 policy will be able to absorb the CPO until 6 million tons per year. “ Especially, there is a discourse about its upgrading into B30 that could absorb the CPO untul 9 million tons per year. We strongly support the Government effort. We know that Oil palm industry currently is become out largest source of foreign exchange,” he said.
