Pontianak, W. Kalimantan, July 14 (Antaranews Kalbar) - Quarantine Station in Entikong, district of Sanggau, has so far destroyed 8 tons of red onion smuggled from Malaysia.
The red onion, which was destroyed on Friday, was seized by border security force on May 20 at a traditional road.
Head of the Farm Quarantine Station of Entikong Drh Yongki Wahyu Setiawan said the red onion in 8 sacks totaling 8 tons was found to have been smuggled across the border from Malaysia via traditional road.
"In compliance with the regulation the food commodity has to be destroyed," Yongki Wahyu Setiawan said in Entikong on Saturday.
He said import of tuber products via Entikong is illegal, especially as it has not health certificate.
Yongki said he appreciated support and cooperation given by the military unit in Entikong in foiling the smuggling attempt.
