Putussibau, W Kalimantan, Oct 14 (Antaranews Kalbar)- Several lowland areas in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan Province, have been flooded since Saturday afternoon, as Kapuas River spills over its bank.

Floodwaters reaching a height of between one and two meters inundated Kedamin Hilir area in South Putussibau sub-district, Hilir Kantor in North Putussi sub-district, and several other villages in Bika and silat Hulu sub-districts, Uju Harrun, a resident of Teluk Barak, said here, Sunday.

Kapuas River always overflows in rainy season and frequently causes flooding, according to him.

Major floods had hit several residential areas in Kapuas Hulu in 2010 and 2017.

Meanwhile, several provinces on Sumatra Island, such as North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau and Aceh have also been hit by flooding over the last several days.

In Mandailing Natal (Madina) District, North Sumatra Province, floods and landslides hit several villages and killed at least 17 people.
