Pontianak, Sept 4 (Antaranews Kalbar) - The Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office (KPw BI) West Kalimantan noted that price pressures in West Kalimantan Province in August 2018 decreased compared to the previous month.
Head of KPw BI West Kalimantan, Prijono, said that the decline was seen from the West Kalimantan Province Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August 2018, which experienced a deflation of -0.52 percent on a monthly basis.
"On a monthly basis, the West Kalimantan Province CPI deflation was lower than the national CPI deflation, which was recorded at -0.05 percent. On an annual basis, the West Kalimantan Province CPI experienced inflation of 3.47 percent, higher than the national CPI inflation recorded at 3.20 percent," he stated in Pontianak on Tuesday.
Prijono explained that West Kalimantan Province CPI deflation in August 2018 was mainly driven by a decrease in air freight rates, mustard greens, kale, spinach, and oranges.
"The reduction in air freight rates occurred after Eid al-Fitr and the end of 2018 "Pesparawi" activities," he noted.
Meanwhile, he added that the decline in the prices of vegetable commodities, such as mustard greens, kale, spinach, and oranges, was driven by an abundance of supply.
"On the other hand, the high price of broiler chicken meat is due to the increase in production costs due to rising feed prices, while the high price of tongko fish is due to reduced supply due to the sea wave conditions, which are holding back further deflation," he explained.
According to Prijono, in the future, there are some risks of inflation in West Kalimantan, which still need attention, namely adjusting prices for administered prices along with the increase in world oil prices.
"As well as adjusting the lower limit of air transport tickets, weather anomalies, which can interfere with the production and distribution of food ingredients, as well as civil servant salary increase discourses, which can increase price expectations, must be considered," he noted.
He said that in order to control inflation, the West Kalimantan Province Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) will continue to strengthen policy coordination.
"TPID will continue to monitor price movements and coordinate with various parties to keep inflation under control," he pointed out. *** 3 ***
